Coordinated by Primate Research Institute-Kyoto University, African Primatological Consortium and African Wildlife Foundation,this was the first training workshop held under the African Primatological Consortium (APC) as part of efforts to build the capacity of African researchers in primate and conservation research. The key objective of the workshop was to expose young African researchers in the field of Primatology to various field and laboratory tools. It was conducted for a period of 2 weeks and covered topics including: conservation planning, field methods and collection of behavioral data, GIS, Cybertracker/SMART data analysis as well as molecular and DNA analysis in the laboratory.
Sixteen participants from nine African countries involved in primate research participated in the workshop in addition to graduate students at the Primate Research Institute of Kyoto University.
The workshop provided a forum for various researchers to network and formed a basis for future collaborations.
December 2015- Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda
Dec 2015: The first African Primatological Consortium conference supported by Japan Society for Promotion of Science (JSPS) was held at Makerere University between 15-16th December 2015. Members from over 10 countries attended the conference under the theme “Building African Primate Research and Conservation networks”. Find the booklet of abstracts here
Presentations during the conference were under three sub-themes:
1. Ecology and Behaviour of African Primates,
2. Primate Health and Emerging Diseases and
3. Conservation and Management of African Primates and other wildlife.

The African Primatological Consortium was formed on 19th December 2014 during a Primate symposium at Makerere University.
